Meet the team - Emma
We’re a group of down to earth professionals with a wide range of practical experience and qualifications in HR, Employment Law and Health & Safety across a range of industries.
We’re people first, advisors second and to celebrate that fact, we're introducing you each month to one of our team. First up is Emma.
Emma has over 20 years' HR experience and joined the Primed team in early 2022.
Say hello to Emma, one of our HR Advisors
What’s your role at Primed?
I’m an HR Advisor, so I provide advice and support on all manner of people related queries. When a client comes to me with a situation, I’ll get the facts and then provide comprehensive solutions, outlining the level of risk associated with any given approach.
What does a typical day look like?
This is quite difficult as no two days are the same in the world of HR. It really depends on what our client’s need from me at any given time, so I can have some day’s that are quite busy with face-to-face or virtual meetings, and some that are focused on providing advice via email or phone. This is one of the things I love about my job, I get to talk to a variety of people in many different ways. The only guarantee is that every day starts with coffee!
What’s one skill at work you think everyone should have?
Communication. Being able to communicate effectively with managers, peers, direct reports, and all stakeholders really is a great skill to have. It helps remove the ‘grey’ area’s that can exist and misunderstandings that can occur. This is also a great skill to have outside of work, for exactly the same reasons.
What piece of advice would you give someone in business?
People are the most valuable yet complex resource a business can have. Understanding what drives your employees will help you to manage them as individuals. And don’t be afraid of difficult conversations. 9 times out of 10, they’ll take it better than you expect.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
In a previous HR role, I was part of a team that achieved a Gold Workplace Well-being Award. As a Mental Health First Aider and advocate for well-being at work, this was one of my proudest achievements.
What is your secret talent?
When I’m not working, I’m running! I’ve completed several half-marathons, with my first full marathon looming in April.
